Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is set to be a wanted man during the summer transfer window. The stopper is currently third choice behind Matz Sels and Matt Turner and he looks to have little future at the City Ground.

Vlachodimos looked like a good signing when he joined Forest from Benfica in the summer. He has a good pedigree in European football and also has experience playing in the Champions League and Europa League during his career.

The Greece number one suffered heartache on the international stage last night. He was unable to help his country reach Euro 2024, with Georgia winning a penalty shootout against the 2004 champions.

Vlachodimos will now head back to Forest where he looks set to remain out of the reckoning for the remainder of the season. He’s made just seven appearances in all competitions and the future looks bleak for the Greek goalkeeper in England.

Bundesliga club think Forest player Vlachodimos is too expensive

One of Vlachodimos’ former clubs, VfB Stuttgart, are going to be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer. However, the 29-year-old might now be obtainable for them.

According to reputable transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg, Stuttgart do like the look of Forest player Vlachodimos but right now, it’s believed that he’s very expensive as a whole package.

It was claimed that Forest signed Vlachodimos for around £ 7 million last summer. With that in mind, the Reds will surely want to recoup a decent chunk of that, despite a lack of game time for the player.

Forest will almost certainly attempt to offload a number of players in the summer – with Vlachodimos likely to be on that list, given that he will be craving first-team football.

Vlachodimos has been unfortunate

Yesterday we looked at which Forest players would be staying and who would be leaving during the summer. We included Vlachodimos on a list of players we think will leave and it looks almost nailed on.

Given that he’s got such useful experience in Europe, he will almost certainly be snapped up by someone. Furthermore, Vlachodimos earns £45,000-a-week at Forest which in the grand scheme of things won’t be difficult for a club to take on.

In our view, Vlachodimos has been pretty unlucky. His performances have coincided with some seriously drab performances from a Forest perspective but he’s not made as many glaring errors as Turner has.

A 5-0 defeat to Fulham was the last game he played in the Premier League. That was back in December and following the arrival of Sels, he’s no longer making the matchday squad at the City Ground.

With that in mind, it’s surely only a matter of time before Vlachodimos leaves Forest. Any fee the club can get would be ideal, as the Reds look to ensure they meet the requirements of the next FFP cycle.
