Tottenham fans receive a positive sign regarding James Maddison’s injury
Gareth Southgate has called James Maddison up to his latest England squa, issuing a positive sign that the Tottenham man’s injury may not be serious.
Charlie Eccleshare claims that James Maddison, whether or not he is declared fit, has been playing through injuries and might use a break in the upcoming weeks.
Since leaving Leicester City to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Maddison has been nothing short of amazing. Through 12 games this season, the £40 million acquisition has already netted the Lilywhites three goals and five assists (Transfermarkt).
Throughout Ange Postecoglou’s team’s stellar campaign debut, the 26-year-old has been the one pulling all the strings. The best aspect has been Maddison’s relationship with captain Heung-min Son.
Sadly, everything came crashing down on Monday night when Spurs fell to a 4-1 defeat to rivals Chelsea. The ten-game unbeaten run came to an end, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are now suspended, and Maddison appeared to have suffered an injury.
James Maddison needs a rest amid England call-up
It is not yet known whether Maddison will return to action this weekend for the game against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
Charlie Eccleshare thinks the player should be left out of the squad and allowed to rest until after the international break. Unfortunately, it appears the Spurs midfielder may be asked to attend England duty either way.
He told The View from the Lane podcast: “I was thinking of James Maddison and as desperate as Spurs will be to have him back for the Wolves game, at least if he doesn’t play he might then get two weeks off from the internationals.
“And the sense I get on Maddison is that he’s been carrying things basically all season as well and has been making himself available for the games and getting through them but not a lot more.”

Though accurate, it’s a sad fact. While it is obviously desirable for all of us to see Maddison play on Saturday, Spurs may suffer considerably more long-term consequences from that. Let’s give him a break, let Lo Celso take over and prove his mettle, and maybe in the future, we can bring Maddison back to his best.
