Wright Heads South: Rangers Star Set for Birmingham Move

Scott Wright is poised to join Rangers teammate Ben Davies at Birmingham City and will soon have a medical.

The winger has travelled south to the Midlands to be given the once over by club medics ahead of completing a permanent move. The 27-year-old will call time on his three-and-a-half years at Ibrox where he made 120 appearances and scored 20 goals but never became a regular.

Davies is still a Gers player but signed a season-long loan with the Blues last week and Wright will soon be joining him, with his move a permanent one. The former Aberdeen man was on the brink of a move to Turkish side Pendikspor last summer before performing a U-turn and rejecting the switch after flying out for talks with the club.

Birmingham were relegated to League One and are tooling up to try and ensure they return at the first time of asking and signed Hearts left-back Alex Cochrane as well as the Gers duo. Among their other signings was young Scottish midfielder Marc Leonard.

City’s manager is former Celtic coach Chris Davies and he seems to be tapping into a market he knows with players who have performed in the Scottish Premiership. They have won two and drawn one from their opening three League One games.

For Rangers, it is another player off the wage bill and a transfer fee brought in, even if it is likely to be a modest one. They will now look to press on with getting more unwanted men out and adding quality to their starting XI before Friday’s deadline.
