The Shocking Reason Behind Aston Villa’s allegiance ahead of Birmingham City Admited by Lewis Brunt

Wrexham picked up another win on Tuesday night, beating Salford City in a Bristol Street Motors Trophy clash at the STōK Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson and co were still on a high after beating rivals Shrewsbury Town 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham were back in action again on Tuesday though as the attention turns to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy – which some may know as the EFL Trophy.

Salford City were the visitors on Tuesday and Wrexham named a much-changed lineup in order to give some fringe – and returning – players a chance.

Paul Mullin started his first game since his summer surgery and opened the scoring for Wrexham before Conor McAleny levelled it up.

Will Boyle bundled home a winner for Wrexham, though it has officially gone down as an own goal by Salford’s Josh Austerfield.

This was a valuable game for Parkinson as he offered chances to a number of players who needed games.

Mullin was chief among them but so were summer signings Callum Burton, Dan Scarr, Lewis Brunt, Sebastian Revan and Modou Faal

Brunt started as Wrexham’s right-sided centre back against Salford, taking Max Cleworth’s place in the back line.

The defender will be delighted to have featured, making his first appearance since the defeat at Sheffield United in August.

Brunt knows that he faces a battle for first-team action but is certainly looking forward to next week’s clash at Birmingham City.

Wrexham’s trip to Birmingham has been keenly-anticipated and this game will pull in viewers from all over the world.

Both sides have celebrity involvement with Rob McElhenney already sending messages to Tom Brady ahead of the game.

Brunt’s motivations are much more locally-based through given that he hails from Birmingham – and supports their bitter rivals Aston Villa.

Former Villa talent Brunt has now told Wrexham’s official YouTube channel that he anticipating a ‘great atmosphere’

“Yeah, especially being a Villa fan!” said Brunt upon being asked if he is excited for the game against Birmingham.

“I’m from the local area so I’m sure that will be a great game.

“Yeah, definitely. Like I said, it’s going to be a great atmosphere and a great game,” he added.

Brunt would no doubt love to start against Birmingham and help Wrexham claim a win.

The problem is that Brunt may not actually be involved for Wrexham on Monday night.

Brunt has not only failed to start a League One game next season, but he hasn’t even been on the bench.

Brunt’s only matchday involvements have come in the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy as he settles down at the STōK Cae Ras following his summer move from Leicester City.

Parkinson isn’t rushing Brunt into action and the truth is that Cleworth – Wrexham’s first-choice right-sided centre back – is one of the first names on the team sheet.

Brunt rejected Peterborough for Wrexham over the summer and some may wonder if he would be playing a more prominent role for the Posh.

It’s a long season though and Brunt will remain patient as he waits for an opportunity – all whilst cheering on Wrexham against Birmingham with a little more on the line for him personally.
