Everton outcast remains a ‘real lead’ for club – Need Toffees help to get transfer done

Marseille remain keen on getting a deal done for Everton’s Neal Maupay, but need help from the Toffees to make it happen.

That’s according to La Tribune Olympienne, relayed by But Football Club, who say a deal for the striker hasn’t been abandoned just yet.

Marseille have been continually linked with a move to Marseille over the last fortnight as the French side look for a replacement for Faris Moumbagna, who has ruptured a cruciate ligament.

Talks have been held with Everton, who have stood firm and demanded that Marseille pay €8m for the striker. They’re not keen on a loan deal as his current contract expires next summer.

Maupay is believed to be keen to leave Goodison Park, a stance that is likely to be even firmer now given his public spat with Everton fans over the weekend.

Fortunately for him Marseille remain interested according to La Tribune Olympienne, who report that the Everton man is still a target.

“Neal Maupay is a real lead,” they are quoted as saying.

“We have to work with Everton to make arrangements because the idea of OM is to be able to not invest too much in this replacement role.”

The question is whether Marseille can get a deal done. Everton are unlikely to be too resistant or difficult to work with as Maupay isn’t in their plans and public enemy number one to boot.

It’s a matter of the finances involved, with the Blues needing to ensure they can get something back given Maupay will be available on a free next year.
