Latest Leicester City transfer news as goalkeeper wants to leave the squad
Leicester City are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ with fellow Championship side Stoke City over a loan deal for goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.
The Dane has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium under manager Enzo Maresca, having represented the club in the Premier League last season. He has failed to play a single minute in all competitions and has only been included on the bench on two occasions throughout the campaign.
Stoke City have previously been linked with an interest in the City man and reports from The Daily Mail this week claimed that City were waiting on follow-up interest from the Potters after making a loan inquiry.
TEAMtalk now report that ‘advanced talks’ are taking place between the two teams over a potential loan deal as new manager Steven Schumacher aims to put his stamp on the club. It comes after loan goalkeeper Mark Travers was recalled by parent club Bournemouth back in October.
Shortly after the report emerged, the Stoke boss addressed the links in his pre-match press conference, confirming that the Potters are closing in on a goalkeeper transfer: “We’re on with the goalkeeper,” he said. “I don’t want to name names because it wouldn’t be fair to do so but we’re on with the goalkeeper because we’ve known about it for a long time, since Mark Travers went back.”
He added: “It’s the obvious one and it was highlighted before I even came in that we’d try to strengthen the goalkeeping department. We’re on with that.
“Apart from that we’ll have to be patient. When I first came I said we’d give everyone an opportunity to impress and see what we’re all about before we make decisions but the recruitment process has been ongoing since the last window shut and there are targets lined up if we have to do something.”
The arrival of Mads Hermansen in the summer plus the emergence of Jakub Stolarczyk as second choice means that Iversen has fallen down the pecking order. Distribution was one of the goalkeeper’s weak points last season with it a key element for a goalkeeper under Maresca. It therefore looks like his future may lie away from the King Power Stadium.
