what David Ornstein has to say about £35m player to sign to tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be active this month.
The north London club are in the market for a new centre-back, while new midfield options have also been linked.
One player who has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham is Jean-Clair Todibo.
The French defender is said to be a top target for Spurs, but, speaking on Five, David Ornstein has stated that this move is unlikely.
Todibo to Tottenham unlikely
Ornstein shared what he knows about the £35m defender.
“In the defensive department, Thiago Silva is out of contract so they will be looking to bring in in that position. They have been linked with Jean-Clair Todibo in recent days, who hasn’t? But that isn’t one I expect to happen in the January window for Chelsea nor Tottenham, which we may touch on later,” Ornstein said.
Understandable
It’s really not hard to understand why Nice may not want to sell Todibo this month.
Just look at the Ligue 1 table, Nice currently sit in second-place just behind PSG. The idea of winning the title isn’t out of their grasp, and they won’t want to weaken their side this month.
Of course, if the player himself starts to kick up a fuss, it will be quite difficult for Nice to keep hold of him, but, as of yet, there’s been no suggestion that Todibo will push to sign for Tottenham or Chelsea.
Luckily, Spurs seem to have a backup option in place with Radu Dragusin strongly linked with a move to north London, and, by the sounds of it, that deal is getting closer and closer with each passing day.
Spurs may not sign Todibo this month, but it sounds as though that much-needed defensive reinforcement could be through the door sooner rather than later.
Tottenham’s defensive depth issues may soon be a thing of the past if all goes to plan this month.
