Conor Gallagher sets to join totterham spurs

Chelsea’s decision to put rumoured Tottenham target Conor Gallagher up for sale has completely bewildered talkSPORT presenter Sam Matterface.

It has been widely reported by a whole host of outlets over the last couple of weeks that Gallagher would be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge for the right price next month.

The latest of those came from The Athletic, who revealed a couple of days ago that the Blues need to raise funds to push ahead with moves for their January transfers, claiming that an offer of around £40m would be enough to price the England international away from his boyhood club.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s update from earlier this week, it is Ange Postecoglou who is driving Spurs’ interest in Gallagher, with the Australian said to be a fan of the 23-year-old (Daily Briefing).

Mauricio Pochettino has said that he has been happy with the midfielder’s performances but made it clear that the player’s future is out of his hands (The Independent).

Should Spurs push for Conor Gallagher?

Matterface is astonished that the West London club’s hierarchy are open to selling Gallagher even though Pochettino values him highly.

The journalist told netSPORT: “It’s ludicrous to think that this is a player that obviously Pochettino thinks is essential to the team because as soon as the rumours started to swirl in the August transfer window he made him the captain in the absence of Reece James. 

“He’s always worn the armband. Clearly, he wants him to stay and clearly he thinks he’s important. So why on earth are the ownership now trying to, or being prepared to, sanction the sale? He (Pochettino) wants him to stay so why on earth would you put him up for sale?”

Spurs Web Opinion 

I cannot help but feel that Levy will be quietly enjoying the fact that Pochettino is being regularly overruled at Chelsea, just as he was at PSG previously.

Despite being given a lot more power at Spurs than his predecessors and his successors, the Argentine publicly complained about not having enough influence. 

Levy also got quite a bit of flak from Tottenham fans in the summer for looking beyond Pochettino but that decision has also been vindicated.
