Wolves ‘likely to accept’ as Chelsea suffer setback in West Ham fight

The probability of a deal involving Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United going through has emerged in a blow to Chelsea.

Wolves are reportedly willing to let captain Maximilian Kilman depart Molineux this summer if their asking price is met, despite an initial strong reluctance.

The centre-back is one of the most important players at the club but Gary O’Neil’s side must sell this month to comply with the Premier League’s strict profit and sustainability regulations. Wolves are one of several English top-tier clubs struggling to avoid a loss of more than £105 million over the last three seasons.

With the deadline of June 30 fast approaching for teams to sort their financial troubles, Wanderers may well have to let a key player depart. It was thought that Pedro Neto would be the man to leave as the Portugal international’s £60 million price tag would offer good value to a potential suitor and alleviate Wolves’ concerns over sanctions.

Wolves backed into awkward Kilman corner

But with no bids for Neto on the cards as it stands, the Old Gold may have to sacrifice Kilman, with a proposal imminent. The Guardian claims West Ham are ready to make an offer, matching the £45 million Wolves have reportedly demanded. New Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui is determined to reunite with the centre-back he made captain during his brief spell at Wolves.

It’s stated that Wanderers will reluctantly accept if West Ham do indeed go ahead with that bid. Chelsea, who have been heavily linked with Kilman, will have to move quickly otherwise they will suffer a painful blow inflicted by one of their London rivals.
