What the Besiktas owner has said about Forest defender Joe Worrall

Well, at the first Besiktas meeting of the year, Arat has been quizzed on the signing of Worrall and he’s made some intriguing comments.

Forest decided to let Worrall leave the City Ground in January, with the player failing to convince Nuno Espirito Santo that he could play a part.

Leeds, Leicester and Middlesbrough were all interested in Worrall but he eventually headed to Turkey to sign for Besiktas on loan.

He said at the latest Besiktas council meeting: “We hired Joe Worrall as a centre-back. He’s on loan and we paid 500,000 euros. A big club in Turkey sent a guarantee of 4.5m euros, but Joe Worrall wanted to come to us.”

Worrall could have City Ground future

A reported fallout with Steve Cooper proved detrimental to Worrall’s chances of playing under the previous boss.

Worrall did get a new long-term deal earlier this season, however, and if Forest are relegated he could be welcomed back to the club.

At 27-years-old the player does have time on his side – and he simply needs to rediscover his confidence.

There is already the sense that Besiktas might not be the best club for him to do that. He’s made just three appearances for his new club and doesn’t appear the first choice.

A lot can happen between now and the summer and it will be interesting to see what Forest decide to do with Worrall.
