Watch: Jannik Sinner’s Mom Moved to Tears by Son’s Touching Confession
Sinner has had a successful 2024 season, including winning his first Grand Slam, the Australian Open in January.
Jannik Sinner’s acceptance of the ATP year-end No. 1 trophy on home soil was an emotional moment for the Sinner family, with the Italian conceding that the family had made “many sacrifices” over the years.
Five months later, he achieved something no other Italian player had done before: he became world number one, and in September, he won his second major, the US Open.
The 23-year-old wrapped up the year-end No 1 ranking en route to winning the Shanghai Masters and he was finally awarded the trophy on day two of the ATP Finals in Turin.
The camera flashed to his parents Johann and Siglinde Sinner when he lifted the trophy and his mother Siglinde was seen wiping away tears.
During a post-ceremony interview, Jannik was asked about the emotional scenes and replied: “I just heard that my mum was crying, which is something very cute.
“Only they know from the early ages and stages, when I was around 13, how many sacrifices we made as a family. We would have never thought that we would have this trophy at home at some point.
“These are only really dreams and then slowly you try to improve as a player and as a person.
“Now I’m standing here with one of the, if not maybe, the most special trophy I have.
“This is amazing because this is an achievement over 52 weeks so I’m very happy.”

Sinner’s parents rarely accompany him to his matches, but the fact that the ATP Finals were held in home meant they were in attendance.
During interviews, the 23-year-old never fails to acknowledge his parents.
After winning the Australian Open he said: “I wish everyone could have my parents because they always let me choose whatever I wanted to, even when I was younger.
“I made also some other sports and they never put pressure on me, and I wish this freedom is possible for as many young kids as possible. Thank you so much to my parents.”
