Wantaway Birmingham City Star In 11th Hour Transfer Drama As German Club “Hijack” Deal, Will Blues Let Him Go?
Wantaway Birmingham City star in 11th hour transfer drama as German club hijack deal
Wantaway Birmingham City midfielder Juninho Bacuna could remain in Europe after a club made a move for him at the 11th-hour.
According to Football Insider, German side Hannover have hijacked Bacuna’s proposed move to Saudi Arabia. An agreement was in place for the Curacao international to sign for Al-Wehda but now he has a decision to make.
Hannover are in the second tier of German football and are vying for promotion to the Bundesliga. According to FI, they are pushing hard to sign Bacuna, and want to sign an experienced player who can slot straight in to their starting 11.
They have won two out of their three opening games, and are in a race against time if they want him to make his debut before the international break. Hannover play Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday, which is the same day as when the European transfer window shuts. Despite not making a competitive appearance for Birmingham this summer, Bacuna is likely to go away on international duty with Curaco in action against Saint Lucia and Saint Martin next month.
BirminghamLive reported on Tuesday that a fee was agreed between Al-Wehda and Blues with Bacuna poised to sign a two-year deal at the King Abdulaziz Sports City. Earlier this month, Bacuna had been spotted training out in Saudi Arabia with Al-Wehda, having previously been linked with a move to Sivasspor
In Al-Wehda’s case, there’s a bit more time for them to conclude the deal, with the Saudi Pro League transfer window close until October 6. Birmingham City would ideally like to have Bacuna’s future finalised by the end of the transfer window however as his departure could free up some resources to sign any new players.
The 27-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at St Andrew’s, and he doesn’t feature in Chris Davies’ plans. He hasn’t been named in any of Birmingham’s match day squads for their opening four games.
Should Bacuna depart for Hannover or Saudi Arabia, then he will leave having made 111 appearances for Blues after joining from Rangers in August 2021. In what was likely his final campaign at the club, he got nine goals and six assists in 48 games.
