Update on £25m worth saudi arabia deal for newcastle player
Newcastle United sold one winger to a club in Saudi Arabia last year, and now they could sell another in 2024.
Last year saw Allan Saint-Maximin take his talents to the Middle East, despite Eddie Howe actually wanting to keep the Frenchman. However, it was a deal that Newcastle United needed to do for financial reasons, and it ultimately resulted in the club signing Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento.
Fast forward 12 months and Newcastle are once again in a position where they need to sell to boost their position regarding profit and sustainability.
There have been rumours about Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak possibly leaving, but that seems unlikely given how much they will cost.
However, it is a different story when it comes to Miguel Almiron.
Update on Miguel Almiron’s Newcastle United future
It has previously been reported that Almiron is likely to leave Newcastle United this summer, having almost departed in January when Al-Shabab made a move.
Now the summer transfer window is looming, and TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that the 30-year-old Paraguayan will be leaving St James’ Park very soon.
“It’s just coming to a natural conclusion, really,” he said.
“He’s not a first-team regular anymore, and there’s interest out there in him. I think he’ll go with the best wishes. I think Newcastle will even make money on him and he’ll get a huge pay rise. Everyone wins.”
Where Miguel Almiron could go
Given the interest in January, a move to Saudi Arabia feels like the most likely outcome. Bailey believes that is the case, although there are clubs in England and America that are interested in signing Almiron.
“There is interest in him from the MLS as he was a popular figure at Atlanta United, but they would struggle to meet the finances there,” he said.
“I expect him to go to Saudi Arabia. I’m being told there is interest from the Premier League, which Newcastle would entertain. But for the money he is going to cost, I think Saudi Arabia is his most likely destination.
“I think they’ll probably make a bit of money on him. They might get £25million.”
Right time for Newcastle and Almiron to part ways
As Bailey says, this summer feels like a natural end to Almiron’s Newcastle United career.
He has been with the Magpies for five and a half years, having joined the club in January 2019 for £21million from Atlanta United. It was a club record deal at the time, and it would be amazing if we could make a profit on him this summer.
Getting something close to £25million would be really good business, but that only feels likely if he moves to Saudi Arabia.
For Newcastle United, they need to keep progressing. The club knows that the squad needs to improve, and right wing is one area in which they can do exactly that. And for Almiron, he is at the right age to move on and get one last lucrative contract.
He has been a great player for Newcastle, particularly last season. Described as ‘unique’ by Howe, Almiron scored 11 Premier League goals, and played a key role in the Magpies qualifying for the Champions League.
And when we got there, Almiron scored on one of Newcastle’s most famous nights ever. He netted the opener in the 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain with a fantastic finish.
That moment will live long in the memory, and ensure that Almiron is always remembered fondly by Newcastle United fans. He has been a great player over the years, and it will be sad to see him go.
