Final’ decision made by £7m-rated West Brom and Hull City transfer target
A transfer target for West Bromwich Albion and Hull City has decided he will not return to Nottingham Forest
Lewis O’Brien has reportedly made a final decision on his future amid interest from a host of Championship clubs.
Journalist Alan Nixon reports via his Patreon page that O’Brien is expected to stay at LAFC beyond his temporary contract. It’s stated the American club are set to exercise their option to buy the 26-year-old for around £7 million, a switch the player himself is keen on.
West Brom, Hull City, Sheffield United and Leeds United have all been linked with a move for O’Brien over recent months. The Nottingham Forest man, signed from Huddersfield Town for around £8 million in July 2022, is currently out on loan at Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles FC.
If that transfer goes through, West Brom, Hull and other teams interested will have to look elsewhere to bolster their midfield ranks. Albion boss Carlos Corberan was keen on reuniting with the player he spent two years with at Huddersfield Town but it seems not to be.
O’Brien’s move to the City Ground never quite worked out as the midfielder made just 17 appearances for Forest throughout his two-year stay. One of those campaigns was spent on loans away, too, as O’Brien shared the 2023/24 season at DC United and Middlesbrough.
Experienced in the Premier League, Championship and League One with a combined 199 appearances cross the top three English divisions, O’Brien departs his home nation fulfilled. A regular starter at LAFC so far, the playmaker is on the verge of his second big-money move.
