what Tyrese Campbell’s injury lead Stoke city to

Stoke City will be without forward Tyrese Campbell for Saturday’s trip to Bristol City as the injuries continue to mount up for Alex Neil in what has been a challenging start to the season.

Campbell left the field after just 13 minutes during Stoke’s 3-1 defeat to Hull City at the Bet365 Stadium on Sunday with a hamstring issue that Neil has confirmed could keep the 23-year-old out until the next international break.

Campbell, who has started the Potters last four games, joins new signing Ryan Mmaee on the sidelines, while there are doubts over a third forward in top-scorer Andre Vidigal who also sustained an injury towards the end of the game against Hull.

Neil’s selection for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash at Premier League Bournemouth could offer an insight into his plans for the weekend at Ashton Gate, but the Scot’s forward options for Ashton Gate look increasingly limited with Vidigal, if fit, plus Wesley and Sead Haksabanovic, with the latter two yet to open their accounts since signing in the summer.

That’s along with defender Enda Stevens, leaving Neil without a recognised left-back, while midfielder Wouter Burger is also a doubt, further limiting his options elsewhere on the pitch as Stoke have drawn one and lost four of their last five Championship encounters.

“They are all getting closer day by day but I don’t think he’s going to be any time soon – and by that I mean for the immediate game – and Ryan Mmaee is not going to be any time soon,” Neil told Stoke-on-Trent Live. “Unfortunately Tye Campbell is going to be longer than we had hoped too. It’s a bit of an odd injury and connected with his hamstring.”

After a bright start to the season, Stoke are winless in five and are sinking towards the bottom three following a summer of considerable change as 18 players were signed, including four on deadline day, to try and reinvigorate Neil’s squad.

Stoke have found the target just eight times in eight games, with only two on the road as they’ve lost three and drawn one of their four matches away from home. Neil is under increasing pressure, with Sunday’s defeat at the Bet365 Stadium greeted with boos.

Of course it’s fixable, everything’s always fixable,” Neil added. “You look at a lot of teams and they’ll go through maybe a difficult patch and then they’ll go and win a game, maybe 1-0 with something bouncing off someone’s backside and not play particularly well but that sets off a sequence of good performances and good results. We need that one win that’s just going to lift some of the lads and then hopefully we can try to put a decent run together.

“The difficulty we’ve got is that this is probably as strong as the Championship has been since I’ve been in it. Every team is always in the game too, there are teams at the moment who don’t even need to play well to win because they’ve got a cutting edge, they’ve got something that they can put the ball forward to and can just apply pressure.”
