Nottingham Forest
Two Sky Sports pundits in total agreement over incident involving Nottingham Forest star Murillo
Another weekend and another plethora of clips to look over from a weekend when Nottingham Forest and VAR continued their toxic relationship.
The Reds were beaten for the first time during 2024/25 with Fulham running out 1-0 winners over a Forest who did look void of ideas.
Raul Jimenez scored the game’s only goal from the penalty spot after Murillo was judged to have fouled Andreas Pereira.
Nuno Espirito Santo now has some work to do to ensure Forest can go into the international break on a high with Chelsea away to play next weekend.
Dermot Gallagher and Dean Ashton agree on Murillo incident
The more views this one gets, the harder it becomes to defend Murillo for a naive moment of madness.
It appears that the Brazilian defender is somewhat clumsy and the hope will be that he can learn from this incident.
Murillo has been a standout for Forest this season and he did have a largely impressive game against Fulham minus this incident.
Earlier this morning on Sky Sports News, Ref Watch analysed the incident and Dermot Gallagher came to the conclusion that Murillo shouldn’t get sympathy for what he thinks was a clear decision.
He said: “Well I think it’s a penalty and I think it’s clear and obvious because he stands on his heel and he gives him a shove in the back.
“The ball is going to drop for him to head it so for me it’s clearly a penalty. The dilemma is people’s tolerance level is different but I think it’s a penalty.
Dean Ashton concurred with the former Premier League referee, saying: “He’s about to head it, usually six studs down the Achilles will do it but he’s shoved him as well.”
VAR is inconsistent but Murillo could have no complains on Saturday
The real controversy here is that Forest didn’t get a penalty of their own later in the piece. Frankly, they might have also had one in the first half too.
But, the fact remains that Murillo was very clumsy to stand out Pereira and can have few complaints that this was given after an on-field review.
The defender has to learn from this and understand that he doesn’t have to be the one to go and win every single challenge.
At 22, there will be some imperfections for him to iron out of his game and he remains extremely important to the Forest team this season.
They say that decisions even themselves out over the course of a campaign and hopefully, Forest can get on the right end of a few this season, unlike the 2023/24 season.
