TRANSFER UPDATE; West Ham Target Newcastle STAR Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier is on West Ham’s radar as they step up attempts to land a right-back ahead of the Premier League season starting next week.

West Ham have been busy completing moves for Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez and Luis Guilherme – but adding a full-back remains a position to fill for new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters have been looked at but it has not been possible to thrash out a deal for either of them, although both are still highly regarded.

Newcastle right-back Trippier, 33, is among the possible options for West Ham to look at, depending on whether he is available from his club. While the England international, who started six games at Euro 2024 has been linked with Saudi Arabian clubs, his situation at St James’ Park and whether he would be on the market is yet to be determined.

Trippier has often captained Newcastle since his arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2022, during which time he has helped them qualify for the Champions League. His deal at Newcastle is until 2025, the club revealed when he last extended, and under those terms would be able to speak to clubs about a pre-contract in January when he has six months left.

Last season, Vladimir Coufal started all but two of West Ham’s games in the Premier League and right-back has been earmarked as a position where competition could be added for Lopetegui.

Brighton make contact with Hummels

Brighton are among the clubs to have expressed an interest in experienced defender Mats Hummels, who is available on a free transfer this summer.

Brighton are understood to face fierce competition for the 35-year-old’s signature following his departure from Borussia Dortmund.

Hummels has made 78 appearances for Germany and was a member of the team that won the 2014 World Cup. Last season he helped Dortmund to reach the Champions League final.

Aston Villa make offer for Cotcher

England Under-17 striker Mason Cotcher is set to undergo a medical at Aston Villa on Friday ahead of a move from Sunderland.

The clubs have agreed on a package for Cotcher, with the other formalities of a deal to be finalised over the weekend.

Premier League winner Danny Simpson has been announced on the bill of boxing promoters Misfits, with a bout against Danny Aarons scheduled for Aug 31 in Dublin.
