Tottenham to sign ‘unbelievable’ £45m player before January ends

Whilst Tottenham Hotspur have already made a ton of progress in the January transfer window, it seems they may not be done.

Both Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin made their debuts at Old Trafford yesterday – testament to the efficient work Spurs have conducted. It seems both Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy were in complete unison heading into this month, and it’s paying dividends.

And with Spurs believed to want three players through the door this month, only one profile is now missing.

As well as a central defender and a forward, Tottenham were also said to be targeting a midfielder in January.

And according to The Northern Echo, senior figures at Spurs have already decided who it should be.

Those high up at Tottenham now want to sign Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips to round off an excellent January transfer window.

The £45m midfielder is one of a number of options being considered, with Phillips preferring to stay in the Premier League as opposed to a move to the Serie A.

Moreover, this information also states that Eric Dier’s departure has created room for Spurs to pursue another deal before the month ends.

Of course, Phillips’ arrival really would signal a change of ambition at Tottenham.

Postecoglou clearly hasn’t arrived in North London to spearhead a project of mediocrity, he’s got lofty aims.

And with Phillips surely desperate for first team football in the next few months before the Euros, a deal could be realistic.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee City would demand for the England international, but it’s clear that he’s surplus to their plans.

However, ‘unbelievable‘ Phillips certainly could make a huge impact at another top five side.

Alan Shearer was pretty reserved in his prediction of where Spurs will finish in the Premier League this season.

But if Tottenham were able to add Phillips before the January window closed, he may have to alter that judgement slightly.

Although some will still be disappointed not to win last night, it is turning out to be an excellent month for Spurs.

And they may not be done just yet.
