Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have been linked with the move for Mohamed Simakan.

According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Philipp Hinze, the defender has a €70 million release clause in his contract and the French central defender is open to joining a club in the Premier League. A move to England appeals to him and it remains to be seen whether the two English clubs are prepared to pay up.

Tottenham and Newcastle need to improve their defensive unit and signing another central defender could prove to be a wise decision for them.

Tottenham have three reliable central defenders at their disposal and signing Simakan would sort out their defensive unit for the near future. The 23-year-old is versatile enough to operate as a right back as well. He could prove to be the ideal utility player for Tottenham.

Tottenham, Newcastle need Mohamed Simakan

The North London outfit will look to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season and they need more quality and depth in the side. The Frenchman could prove to be the ideal long-term acquisition for them. He’s only 23 and Simakan is likely to improve with coaching and experience. He could develop into a top class defender with the right guidance. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou could play a key role in his development.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been quite vulnerable defensively and they need to plug the gaps at the back. They will have to tighten up defensively if they want to secure Champions League qualification once again. Simakan could form a quality partnership with the Dutch central defender Sven Botman.

It remains to be seen whether the two English clubs are ready to shell out €70 million for him in the summer, especially when they will have to improve the other areas of their squad as well.
