Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven faces a possibility of a reinjury from his hamstring issues despite returning, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that hamstring setbacks have the highest risks of reinjury so the club physios will be monitoring him carefully.

After returning to action against Manchester United on 14 January, the 22-year-old limped off before 90 minutes, but then quickly allayed fears stating on Sky Sports that it was a cramp on the calf. [Independent]

Discussing the state of play with van de Ven exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “There are significant chances of reinjury as hamstring injuries have the highest risk of reinjury for footballers so there’s always that possibility.

“He was limping off in his first game returning from an injury and that’s never a good sign.

“However, he played down any injury worries shortly after which is a positive but he’ll still be monitored carefully by the club physios.

I’d expect to see him back at 100 per cent if he’s not there yet, but just one game back might not be enough to achieve that.

Before the game against United, the Netherlands international’s last senior clash for Spurs was back in November.

That’s when Ange Postecoglou’s side took the lead against Chelsea at home, only to lose the game 4-1, ending it with nine men.

The 22-year-old has made 12 Premier League appearances for Spurs this season, finding the back of the net once.

He also played the entire 120 minutes as he watched his side get knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties against Fulham on penalties back in August.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a player is mooted to have suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and now may be out for longer than first expected.
