Two Tottenham youngsters were just handed a lesson by Toby Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld scored a double for Royal Antwerp against Westerlo, leaving Alfie Devine and Luka Vuscovic licking their wounds.
Spurs sent Alfie Devine on loan to Westerlo
It came as a surprise when Tottenham decided to loan Devine to Westerlo rather than to the EFL but the attacking midfielder now has an opportunity to showcase what he can do in the Jupiler Pro League alongside some big names.
He is not the only Spurs youngster on loan with the Belgian side, with centre-back Luka Vuskovic also currently with the Antwerp-based side.
Tottenham officials will thus be keeping a close eye on how Westerlo get on this season, with both players being seen by some as potential future first-team prospects in North London.
What did Toby Alderweireld do?
Devine and Vuskovic might be the future of Spurs but it was a past Tottenham hero that handed them a harsh lesson on Saturday in the Antwerp derby.
Alderweireld captained his boyhood club to a 2-1 win, with the former Spurs centre-back heading in both goals for his side.
Both Devine and Vuskovic started and played all 90 minutes for the Belgian side, so they at least got some big-game experience under their belts.
Spurs Web Opinion
Alderwierled still appears to be going strong at 35 years of age and the likes of Vuskovic and Devine will certainly learn a lot by coming up against grizzled veterans like the Belgian defender.
Hopefully, he had a little chat with the youngsters about Spurs in the tunnel after the game!
