The Premier League’s “possibly best” player is a Tottenham standout.
Alan Pardew has given his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after watching him in action against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The former Newcastle United manager and talkSPORT pundit believes that Vicario is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League at the moment.
So, what has Alan Pardew said about Guglielmo Vicario? Let’s take a look.
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario ‘possibly the best’
Well, Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League this past weekend.
Guglielmo Vicario, who moved from Empoli in the summer of 2023, started the match for Tottenham. As we have seen this season, the goalkeeper played well for the North London club.
While Vicario could not do anything about the goals that he conceded, he claimed the crosses that came his way with confidence and commanded his area well.
Former West Ham United manager Alan Pardew was impressed with Vicario, and the talkSPORT pundit thinks that he is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League at the moment.
Pardew said about Vicario on talkSPORT (7:24 pm, January 14, 2024): “The goalie, you have got possibly the best goalkeeper in the league at the moment. He is outstanding. And he looks so comfortable. He came and took two or three crosses today that took all the pressure off of Spurs. Brilliant performance, I thought.”
Pardew is not the first pundit who has been impressed by Vicario this season. Ben Foster thinks that the Spurs star has outshone Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. Danny Murphy has also praised Vicario.
My View: Alisson and Ederson better than Guglielmo Vicario
While I agree that Guglielmo Vicario has been very good for Tottenham Hotspur and has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season, there is no way that he is better than Alisson or Ederson.
Liverpool’s Alisson and Ederson of Manchester City are two of the best goalkeepers on the planet. They are genuinely world class. Vicario is not.
Of course, Vicario could become world class. After all, he is 27 now and has his best years ahead of him. Chris Sutton has been hugely impressed.
But, at this moment in time, despite the impressive performances of the 27-year-old Italian goalkeeper for Spurs, I do not think that he is the best in his position in the Premier League.
