The hammers and Palace on a January transfer deal

Crystal Palace have made contact with West Ham and have asked to be kept aware of the situation of Danny Ings in the January transfer window, according to Michael Bridge.

Crystal Palace have made contact with West Ham

The Sky Sports journalist claimed that, as things stand, the move is unlikely to be given the go-ahead due to the ongoing injury crisis at the London Stadium.

Bridge went on to insist that Ings’ preference would be to remain in the Premier League, putting Wolves and Palace ahead of Southampton if the striker were to make a decision.

Speaking to Netsport.uk [13 January], Bridge reported: “I think Palace, like a couple of clubs, have been asked to be kept aware of his situation at West Ham.

“But I think if we look at it at the moment, we see West Ham’s potential injury situation, I’m not too sure whether that’s a goer at the moment.

“Because there has been talk about Southampton liking Danny Ings as well, but we understand he wants to remain in the Premier League if he does leave West Ham. Wolves have been mentioned as well.”

Priorities need to be made

West Ham will reportedly delay the sale of Ings, whether that be a loan or permanent move, until there is more clarity over their injury concerns or until they can bring in an adequate replacement, but they need to assess what their priorities are.

Ings has started just one Premier League game so far this season, coming off the bench for nine, and has failed to find the net even once in his 16 appearances this season across all competitions, even in the League Cup or Europa League fixtures.

This has come while Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen have been the preferred central strikers under David Moyes, but with 19-year-old Divin Mubama also an option, will Ings really be that important?

Reports suggest that Antonio’s latest injury setback will rule him out for another three weeks, and Bowen is expected to miss a similar period, so would it be worth holding onto Ings to play these games rather than trusting Mubama and cashing in on a player who is simply last his best?
