the furious on-pitch Rangers disagreement which sums up Clement transfer message
As Ridvan Yilmaz hit the underside of the crossbar late on v Livingston, it appears Rangers captain James Tavernier was the only one who thought he never meant it.
The young Turk almost added to his goal tally this season with a neat floated effort over the top of Shamal George before the ball crashed down off the crossbar.
Whilst the moment was to have little impact on the Ibrox clash – which Rangers went on to win 3-0 – an official Gers clip after the game has grabbed the attentions of fans online.
In further evidence of the growing camaraderie within the camp, and the fact that Ridvan Yilmaz didn’t want to leave in January, he was spotted remonstrating with James Tavernier at full-time.
Ridvan Yilmaz and James Tavernier disagreement
The Rangers skipper was clipped winding up Ridvan by suggesting that the effort was a cross and not a shot, leading to a hilariously furious kickback from the left-back.
With the Turkish international stating “I swear on my life” when asked if it was a deliberate attempt at goal, the laughs shared by Yilmaz, Tavernier, and new signing Fabio Silva have raised plenty of smiles on social media.
The clip has since been picked up by Turkish media online and we’ll let you decide if Ridvan Yilmaz meant to shoot or cross in Rangers’ latest victory.
The clip highlights the good feeling within the Rangers camp at present and also echoes comments made before the game by Philippe Clement about the atmosphere in the club’s squad.
Rangers players committed to Ibrox cause
Unless you were hibernating through a rather harsh January, then you won’t have missed the reports that Ridvan Yilmaz was subject to much interest from Galatasaray in the window.
There was talk of rejected bids, new left-back signings, and transfer valuations, but amid all the paper talk Ridvan continued to excel in the blue of Rangers.
The left-back’s commitment was unwavering and even despite the lure of playing for Turkey’s biggest club, the ex-Besiktas star wasn’t tempted.
It’s in line with Philippe Clement claiming that several players had the chance to leave Rangers in the winter but opted to stick around.
“In January in general there were players who could go somewhere else and make a new step to interesting competitions and teams but they wanted to stay,” said Clement.
“So I think it’s also a big evolution for sure three months ago they wanted to leave. They feel they are in a good story and can do something special together.
“In that way, I am really happy about this January also. Sometimes players use every emotional reason why they want to go.
“It was the opposite because there were a few offers but the players said I want to stay at Rangers.”
Ridvan Yilmaz has played 18 times for Rangers this season, netting twice, and for the sake of the side, let’s hope there are more arguments like this to come with James Tavernier this season.
