Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has spoken about the five deals that Andy Howe has been involved in since arriving at St James’ Park in 2021.

As reported on Chronicle Live last weekend, Howe has taken on a new role at Newcastle and will now work directly beneath head of recruitment Steve Nickson. Following the departure of Dan Ashworth, United’s backroom is now under the microscope as fans wait to see who will replace the former Brighton & Hove Albion transfer guru.

The nephew of Howe had a role with the scouting unit but the Toon boss has underlined his role in some big transfer deals. When asked about some of his accomplishments since joining the backroom team from AFC Bournemouth, the Newcastle chief name-checked six deals.

Howe senior said: “His (Andy Howe’s) role has always been very prominent in recruitment. He’s played a huge part in the recruitment of some key players.

“When I look at the role in recruiting Bruno, Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, Harrison Ashby, Anthony Gordon, he was absolutely prominent in those key signings for the football club.

“He’s done an outstanding job and as I say, the title change is just recognition for what he has done.”
