Tottenham defender Ben Davies has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old Welsh international is no longer a regular starter for the North London club, and he could move on before the January transfer window closes.

Journalist George Tyokighir has now revealed that Leeds United are working on signing the 30-year-old before the window closes. He believes that the Welsh international could become available if Tottenham decide to bring in reinforcements in the coming weeks.

“I think that Leeds are keeping across Ben Davies because, if Tottenham are to make some changes in their squad, he might be the one that becomes available.

“The beauty of Davies is that he can play at left-back and centre-back. Given the need to strengthen, and how little time there is left in the window, Daniel Farke would like versatile players. He feels like Davies – or equivalents to Davies – could almost be seen as a two-for-one signing. Versatile players are going to be given preference.

“Davies, Ben Johnson and Connor Roberts are the names that Leeds are working on at the moment. It really wouldn’t surprise me if they are active and they get some joy over the course of the next two weeks.”

Davies is capable of operating as the left-back as well as a central defender. The experienced utility man could prove to be a quality acquisition for Leeds as they chase promotion back to the Premier League.

He has considerable experience of English football, and he could make an immediate impact at Leeds. He will help them improve defensively, and his experience could prove to be vital during the second half of the season.

Destiny Udogie is now the first choice left-back at the club, and Tottenham should look to cash in on Davies if there is a concrete proposal on the table. It will be interesting to see if the defender is keen on a move to the Championship. It will probably come across as a step down for him.

However, he needs to play regularly at the stage of career and Leeds will be able to provide him with that platform.
