Supercomputer predicts chances of Rangers winning Europa League
Rangers have been given exactly a one-per-cent chance of winning this season’s Europa League by Opta Analyst.
The data specialists have the Gers as the 16th most-likely team to lift the trophy in Dublin at the end of May.
Liverpool are listed as the favourites (30.5 per cent), followed by Bayer Leverkusen (19.2 per cent) and Atalanta (7.5 per cent).
Rangers are already through to the last 16 of the competition by virtue of finishing top of their group and have yet to learn their next opponent.
Rangers fighting for trophies on multiple fronts
Some will question why Rangers are so far down this list, below the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and Slavia Prague, but it ultimately does not matter.
The Gers were also written off a couple of seasons ago en route to reaching the final in Seville, where they were beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt.
Philippe Clement’s men have been in superb form since the Belgian arrived, playing a part in them finishing top of their group in December.
As ever, the possible path Rangers are given to the final will have a huge say in how far they make it.
Draw the big-hitters up next, for example, and instantly the task becomes a lot more difficult in their quest to win yet more silverware this season.
For now, supporters can sit back and relax while the playoff qualifying double-headers take place over the next week.
Then excitement can start building ahead of the European nights returning to Ibrox early next month.
