Steve cooper din’t agree with the 30year forest signee
Steve Cooper had no idea that Nottingham Forest were going to sign Brazilian forward Gustavo Scarpa last January.
That is according to Netsport.uk
So, what has been said about Forest signing Scarpa and what did Cooper think? Let’s take a closer look…
Steve Cooper didn’t know Nottingham Forest were signing Gustavo Scarpa
Well, it’s another sad and pretty damning indictment on the club’s hierarchy that Cooper had no idea this one was happening.
Forest agreed to sign Scarpa from Palmeiras on a free transfer – but Cooper didn’t even know he was signing for the club.
The Times have now claimed that Cooper never sanctioned the arrival of Scarpa and didn’t feel he was athletic enough for the Premier League
He was under the illusion that he was casting an eye over the 30-year-old to assess his suitability for Olympiacos.
Scarpa only made 10 appearances for Forest and failed to register a single goal contribution during his time at the club.
He joined Olympiacos on loan for the first half of the 2023/24 campaign but after 11 fruitless games, Scarpa has now signed permanently for Atletico Mineiro.
Forest must reassess the transfer strategy
Ultimately, it’s got to the point where this situation with Scarpa probably won’t come as a surprise to Forest fans.
On the face of things, Scarpa did seem like a useful signing for free given that he’d won the Golden Ball in Brazil before he signed.
Although Cooper, and now Nuno Espirito Santo, are head coaches, they should still have some sort of say in the recruitment.
Okay, there might be times when the club does sign a player that the head coach doesn’t exactly recommend who turns out to be a gem.
However, they are few and far between and largely there needs to be more joined-up thinking when it comes to the recruitment at Forest.
Scarpa never truly looked at home in a Forest shirt and as a result, perhaps Cooper had a point with the claims he apparently made.
