Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Japanese defender Koki Machida.

According to the Belgian outlet 7sur7, the north London club are ‘interested’ in signing the 26-year-old central defender, but they will have to submit an offer that is ‘impossible to refuse’.

Machida has been a key player for Union SG and the Belgian outfit will not sanction his departure easily. Tottenham have already signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa earlier this month and it remains to be seen whether they are ready to break the bank for another central defender.

There is no doubt that Tottenham need another quality defender at their disposal and the Japanese international could prove to be a useful acquisition. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has immense knowledge of the Asian market and he signed quality Asian players during his time at Celtic. It is no surprise that he is keeping tabs on Machida who has proven himself to be a quality player for the Belgian club.

The 26-year-old has the quality to succeed in the Premier League as well and he could be a very useful option for the North London club in the coming seasons.

Currently they have Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Dragusin as their central defensive options. Machida could complete the defensive unit for the foreseeable future.

The Japanese international is at the peak of his powers right now, and he will look to test himself at a high level. A move to the Premier League will be an exciting step up for him and he will be determined to prove his quality in England.
