SHOCKING: Chiefs QB Carson Wentz hopes to ‘find a way to help’ Patrick Mahomes
Carson Wentz once looked like he was going to become one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks for the next decade plus after throwing for 14,191 yards, 97 touchdowns and just 35 interceptions in his first four seasons.
However, injuries have slowed him down and he is now on his fifth team in the past five years, joining the Chiefs on a one-year deal in April.
Wentz seems to be fully in his backup era after serving as the Los Angeles Rams’ No. 2 quarterback behind Matthew Stafford in 2023.
There won’t be much new, if anything, that Wentz could lend to Patrick Mahomes, but he hopes to find a way to help the three-time Super Bowl champion at some point.
“I’ll find a way to help him whatever way I can, whether that’s off the field, on the field, whatever,” Wentz said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com.
Teams around the league are still in the early portions of the offseason and won’t head to training camp until the end of the month.
Wentz knows there will be plenty of opportunities to establish his role in the coming weeks and months.
“We’re still early,” Wentz added. “We’re only in here a handful of hours every day and a couple days a week and it’s not quite the grind that it will be. So that’ll keep evolving and kind of how I find my place, so to speak. But Pat and I already have a great relationship and that’ll keep growing and I’ll keep finding ways I can help.”
On the other hand, there’s a lot Wentz could probably learn from Mahomes, who is undoubtedly the best quarterback in the league.
If Wentz hopes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL once again, he must take advantage of his time in Kansas City. He’s planning to do just that without any idea of when his next chance to play will be.
“I’m trying to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can, formulate a relationship with all these guys and just keep getting better on the field,” Wentz finished. “You’ve got to always be ready to go when called upon, so it’s no different in that regard.”
