Leicester City are the first side through to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals, overcoming an early setback to beat Birmingham City 6-2.

After just 70 seconds, Ellie Mason’s header over the six-yard box beat her own goalkeeper, Missy Goodwin, giving the Championship team the lead.

By the halfway point of the first half, Leicester had taken control of the match. Shannon O’Brien scored a high goal from the edge of the box four minutes later, and Janice Cayman tied the score after being put through on goal by a feed from Saori Takarada.

When Libby Smith received a through pass from Christie Harrison-Murray and hoisted the ball over goalkeeper Janina Lietzig on minute forty, Birmingham appeared to be drawing even at the half.

The Foxes quickly took the lead again when Sam Tierney found O’Brien, whose strike the keeper was unable to save.

They were two goals in front again before the hour mark, Takarada heading home following a Jutta Rantala free kick.

Leitzig had to top a Claudia Walker effort over the bar, before Deanne Rose came off the bench to very quickly for the hosts into a 5-2 lead.
