Secret Friendly: Six Sheffield Wednesday Stars Shine Against Brighton

on

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to jet off to Germany for the second part of their pre-season training schedule.

The Owls began their summer campaign with a friendly win over National League North side Alfreton Town.

Josh Windass and Mallik Wilks were the goal-scorers as they claimed a 2-0 victory, with Ben Hamer and Pierce Charles keeping clean sheets in both halves.

Sheffield Wednesday then headed out to St George’s Park for their first training camp, while they are now set to fly out to Germany for their second and final camp.

The squad will be staying in Danny Rohl’s home country, but will be travelling over the border to Austria for friendlies against RB Salzburg and Werder Bremen.

Wednesday are then scheduled for another match on home soil against Leganes next month, with a week to go until their Championship opener.

However, it turns out another fixture has already been played in England this week, ahead of their trip across Europe.

The Star have reported that the Owls travelled down to the south coast yesterday as they took on Brighton & Hove Albion in a behind-closed-doors clash.

The report names Windass, Liam Palmer, Anthony Musaba, Bailey Cadamarteri, Sean Fusire and Gui Siqueira among those believed to have participated in the match, though there is no indication of how Rohl set up his team.

Rohl took on his German compatriot Fabian Hurzeler at the Amex Stadium, with the 31-year-old becoming the youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history after joining from FC St. Pauli this summer.

It was the Seagulls manager that came out victorious though, with his team claiming a 3-0 win after fielding a ‘strong’ starting line-up.

It was a brief trip down south though, with Wednesday now set to travel to Germany ahead of Saturday’s meeting in Salzburg.

There’s something exciting about this summer’s schedule

Wednesday appear to be taking on much stronger competition than last season, with Brighton, Salzburg and Werder Bremen all competing in the top division of their respective leagues.

Rohl has made it clear that he wants to implement high-intensity training and we are seeing their friendlies match that, with the 35-year-old eager to see his team fully prepared for their first game against Plymouth.

The German wants to get a look at all his new signings so he can eventually work out his best XI, though he is clearly making sure to look at those in the academy too.

Fusire and Siqueira have proven themselves in the U21s and have now been named with the big boys in a bid to impress in pre-season.

It will be a breath of fresh air to see the youngsters make a name for themselves, whilst it will also add much-needed squad depth going into the new season.
