sad transfer twist for westham

West Ham are unlikely to allow Danny Ings to leave the club this month after Michail Antonio suffered another injury blow, according to Netsport.uk.

Writing on their transfer live blog (9 January, 8:26am), the news outlet report that the Jamaica international has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

That means that Ings now looks like he will be staying at the London Stadium, which is “bad news” for Wolves as they were interested in doing a loan deal for the former England striker.

“He looks like he might be staying at West Ham after Michail Antonio suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury,” they wrote.

“That’s bad news for Wolves who will be looking to sign Ings on loan.”

West Ham were clearly very open to doing a deal for Ings this month because he is way down the pecking order under David Moyes.

Jarrod Bowen seems to be the first-choice striker these days despite naturally being a right-winger, while Antonio and Divin Mubama are all ahead of Ings in the ranking also.

Wolves being interested would no doubt have been a very good option for Ings as it keeps him in the Premier League, and for the Hammers it would get his wages off the books too.

But sensibly the club are looking to put their own interests first this month and to ensure they’re not left short going forward for the second half of the season, any potential deal will need to wait until the end of the window if there is going to be any movement.

For now though, it’s bad news for Wolves, West Ham and Ings as a move looks off the table.

In other West Ham news, Hammers eye loan or permanent deal for international forward this month.
