Roster Shuffle: Bears Make Key Moves

The Chicago Bears have placed offensive lineman Ryan Bates on injured reserve.

LAKE FOREST, Ill., — The Chicago Bears are making some roster moves before Sunday night’s game against the Houston Texans in primetime. On Saturday, the Bears officially placed offensive lineman Ryan Bates on injured reserve as he’s dealing with a shoulder/elbow injury he suffered in Week 1 against Tennessee.

Bates was acquired by the Bears this offseason from the Buffalo Bills and will now miss at least the next four games with the injury. In Week 1, Bates split time with Nate Davis at right guard as the Bears were not sold on either as the starter. Moving forward, it’s Davis’ job to lose with Bates out.

In addition to putting Bates on IR, the Bears have also elevated wide receiver Collin Johnson and long snapper Scott Daly from the practice squad to the active roster. Daly was up last week in place of the injured Patrick Scales.

Johnson is up for the first time, which is a sign that the Bears will be without one of Keenan Allen or Rome Odunze, or potentially both as they are dealing with injuries this week.
