Ronaldo and Rangers cross paths again as he makes transfer pledge 27 years after that signing offer

Brazil legend Ronaldo has promised to land Rangers flop Jose Cifuentes next week, as a present to fans before the start of the famous Rio Carnival.

The Ecuadorian midfielder looks certain to leave Ibrox after being an expensive flop since his move this summer from Los Angeles FC in the MLS. Cifuentes is wanted by Brazilian club Cruzeiro, who are owned by one of the world’s greatest ever players, Ronaldo.

A move would see the former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan ace cross paths with the Ibrox men once again – 27 years after THAT incredible signing offer. In the summer of 1997, Ronaldo explained: “Yes it’s true I received an offer from Glasgow Rangers. We looked at it and decided the best offer at the time was from Inter Milan so I gave my apologies.” Ronaldo – who twice won the Ballon d’Or – owns Cruzeiro having pumped £60 million into the Belo Horizonte club, his first team in Brazil. But he’s come under fire from their fans for a lack of transfer investments since taking over.

However, he has insisted they will have two new players by next Friday – when Rio de Janeiro’s famous carnival starts and parties take place across the country. He told fans: “There will be two new players at the club next week in time for the Carnival!”

And reports in South America have stated they will be Cifuentes, likely on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy and defender Lucas Villalba who is out of contract with Argentino Juniors.

Cifuentes turned down a move to Turkey with Rizespor. Brazil’s transfer window runs until next month.
