Nuno Tavares may want to leave Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window, but the Arsenal-owned defender seems stuck at the City Ground for now.

That is according to L’Equipe, which has reported why a potential move to Marseille has fallen through for Tavares.

So, what has been reported about Nuno Tavares? Let’s take a look.

Nuno Tavares wants to leave Nottingham Forest in January

Well, Nuno Tavares joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2023.

Tavares was expected to get regular playing time at the City Ground, but the Portuguese left-back has struggled to get into the team.

The 23-year-old left-back has made two starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Forest this season.

The Portuguese youngster has made one start and one substitute appearance in the FA Cup for the Reds this campaign.

Tavares has struggled to impress Steve Cooper and Nuno, and there has been speculation that Forest could send him back to Arsenal this month.

L’Equipe reported last week that Tavares is open to leaving Forest and moving to Marseille in the January transfer window.

Journalist Thibaud Vezirian recently claimed that the left-back is not particularly happy at Forest despite getting on better with Nuno than with Cooper.

Disappointment for Tavares

A new report in L’Equipe is now claiming that Tavares is stuck at Forest for now.

Marseille have been looking for a new left-back, which is why they wanted to bring back Tavares, who had a loan spell at the French club last season.

The Ligue 1 club have reached an agreement with Nantes to sign Quentin Merlin, so they do not need another left-back now.

The report has added that Tavares is now in limbo at Forest, who are aiming to avoid the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Tavares in the final days of the January transfer window.

I do not see the 23-year-old establish himself as a first-team regular for Nuno anytime soon.
