Report: Nottingham Forest are now trying to make a signing Nuno never expected at the start of January
Nuno Espirito Santo has actually made a U-turn on the situation surrounding his goalkeepers at Nottingham Forest since the start of January.
This comes courtesy of an article by The Athletic.
So, what has been said about Espirito Santo and how he feels about the goalkeeper situation at Forest? Let’s take a closer look…
Nuno Espirito Santo now wants a Forest signing he never expected to make
Well, it would appear as though this situation has now gone full circle, with Forest on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.
In the past few days, Kasper Schmeichel has been linked with a move to Forest and other names have also emerged.
Now, an article from The Athletic has suggested that Espirito Santo now wants to make a signing that he never expected to make.
It’s been said that even at the start of January, the Forest head coach didn’t expect to be in the market for a new goalkeeper.
The situation has now become perilous with Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos, however, and a new player is being sought.
Forest don’t have long to get themselves sorted on this front – and a strong performance from Turner tonight might have Espirito Santo changing his mind again.
Forest pursuing another goalkeeper is madness – but could save the season
In the space of a couple of years, Forest have gone from brilliant goalkeepers like Brice Samba, Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas to the mess they have now.
Ultimately, having a solid goalkeeper to depend on is game-changing in the Premier League. Last season, it kept Forest up, this season things are in the balance.
Forest backed Steve Cooper to the tune of £20 million worth of goalkeepers in the summer, yet now Espirito Santo would like another one.
From a business sense, signing another goalkeeper doesn’t make a lot of sense; with Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath also still at the club.
Forest will be working hard to do some business before the deadline on Thursday.
If another goalkeeper can be added on a short-term deal – or on loan – perhaps Forest can justify it if it keeps the club in the Premier League once again.
