According to LeedsLive, Leeds United is getting ready to go into a five-horse competition for Sunderland star Trai Hume.

According to the article, the Whites’ summer pursuit of Hume will pit them against teams like Aston Villa, Leicester City, Bournemouth, and perhaps Napoli.

Daniel Farke is targeting reinforcement at right-back with Conor Roberts’ loan spell having ended and Archie Gray perhaps being utilised back in his more recognised position of central midfield next term.

What Trai Hume could bring to Leeds if he joined in the summer

As aforementioned, right-back is an area in which the Whites are looking to add reinforcements, hence their recent chase for Alfie Gilchrist from Chelsea.

Both Roberts and Luke Ayling have departed the club – the latter having joined Middlesbrough full time having left on loan in January – which has left the West Yorkshire outfit a little light of options at full-back.

The club narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League this season, despite racking up a total of 90 points.

Hence, why Hume would be an ideal player to add within their ranks. The Northern Ireland international played a total of 47 games with 46 coming in the second tier.

Although he only managed to involve himself with two goals, his defensive work is where he really shines.

As per Sofascore, Hume made on average a total of 3.3 tackles per game, 1.4 interceptions, and made zero errors which led to goals in the Championship.

When compared to Gray, who was widely regarded as one of Leeds’ best players, the starlet only managed to average a total of 2.1 tackles per game, 0.7 interceptions, and also made no errors that led to goals.

Not only does this show the quality Hume possesses but also shows how mature of a footballer he is for 22-years-old.

The defender was originally connected to Farke’s team in April, and it seems that interest may still exist.

Leeds will undoubtedly have one of the top defensive right-backs in the Championship if they can hold off their rivals for his transfer.
