Report: Forest in contact with ‘brilliant’ 21-year-old striker who scored at the City Ground last season
Nottingham Forest are eyeing a move to sign Southampton striker Carlos Alcaraz before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
This is according to AS in Spain.
So, what does the future hold for Alcaraz and will he sign for Forest before the window closes? Let’s take a closer look…
Nottingham Forest want Southampton striker Carlos Alcaraz
Well, it would appear as though Forest are stepping up their efforts to sign a new striker before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
According to AS, Forest are in contact with the player’s representatives, although no offer has been made to Southampton.
The Saints are going well under Russell Martin this season and they’re in the mix for an immediate return to the Premier League.
As a result, that could make life difficult for Forest as they try to sign a new talisman before the window slams shut on Thursday night.
It’s also claimed that Forest aren’t the only club interested in Alcaraz between now and Thursday.
Lyon and Marseille are also keen, although it’s believed that the player’s preference if he left Southampton would be to join a Premier League club.
Who is Carlos Alcaraz?
The young striker heralds from Argentina and he joined Southampton in January 2023 from Racing Club.
His first season with the Saints ended in relegation from the top-flight but he did manage four goals and two assists.
One of his goals last season actually came during a 4-3 defeat to Forest in May and perhaps it was that night when he caught the eye.
Alcaraz has found the net four times in the Championship and registered three assists this season.
The player has made three appearances for the Argentina under-23 outfit and at 21-years-old, he looks like he’s set for a bright future.
Earlier this season, Saints winger Ryan Fraser heaped praise on Alcaraz calling him ‘brilliant’.
Rumour rating: 7/10 – Given that he’s not really taken the Championship by storm this season, some Forest fans may hold reservations.
We feel like this would be the ideal signing for Forest to make on the striker front and would represent a change in the recruitment strategy.
Forest have to stop overspending on ageing players and given that Alcaraz is only 21, he’d be a signing that could improve over time.
