Rangers working hard to complete deadline-busting striker signing – report

Rangers are “trying their best” to sign a new centre-forward before the end of the January transfer window, according to The Fourth Official.

Reporting on his X account on Monday (29 January) the journalist suggested that the Light Blues are doing everything in their power to bring a new number nine to Ibrox before the window closes on Thursday 1 February.

Philippe Clement has already signed Fabio Silva to add further competition in the forward areas, while Oscar Cortes is set to be announced as a Rangers player on Tuesday (30 January) to increase the Gers’ depth of quality in the final third [Daily Record, 29 January].

When asked whether a “quality striker” would be signed, The Fourth Official replied: “They are definitely trying their best, I know that.”

Get it done

Before the window had even opened this month, Rangers supporters were united in their belief that the Light Blues simply had to sign a new number nine if they wanted to lift the Scottish Premiership come the end of the season.

Cyriel Dessers has impressed in recent weeks and seems to be getting better in a Rangers shirt, but the Nigerian has shown already this season that he hasn’t got the firepower to make the difference in the biggest games of the season.

With Danilo and Kemar Roofe also battling with injury consistently, Clement simply had to sign a new centre-forward and while Silva represents a start, he is by no means the finished product himself and cannot be relied upon week in and week out.

Hopefully, the Gers’ hard work won’t be for nothing in the final days of the window and they will be able to complete a deal to bring a new striker to Ibrox before the end of the window, but this could well be a deadline-busting transfer.
