Leaders Rangers can’t take their foot off the gas now as the Premiership title race enters it’s final sprint.
And tonight will be one of the big tests of Philippe Clement’s domestic charge so far as they travel to Ayrshire to face a Kilmarnock team who have historically proved tough. The Belgian boss is under no illusions it’s going to be a tough one and he reckons the synthetic Rugby Park pitch is even more of a leveller…as if Derek McInnes’ team need it having beat both sides of the Old Firm already this season.
On the injury front, it’s as you were for Gers with Todd Cantwell, Danilo, Kieran Dowell and Abdallah Sima are all out but no fresh concerns. Kemar Roofe, however, won’t be starting with Clement and his medical staff unwilling to risk him on the astro.
He said ahead of the game: “The squad is fine. The only thing is that I cannot put Kemar Roofe in the selection again because of the surface. So that is a clear message from my medical staff that it is too risky after his injury and amount of injuries.
“In that way, it is a disadvantage to play on that kind of pitch. In the league, there is the decision for the moment that it is still possible to play on those surfaces. But this creates a chance for another player.”
So a chance for whom? Let’s take a look….
No points for guessing who is likely to start up front in Roofe’s lieu after Cyriel Dessers hit a double against Hearts at the weekend. But the astro turf may also lead to caution over Tom Lawrence – who could make way for Fabio Silva if there are any doubts at all. Oscar Cortes seems likely to start again and could Ross McCausland join him in a refreshed forward line?
