Rangers senior player could now seal Ibrox exit within hours today after ‘Unexpected’ twist
Rangers and Ecuador midfielder Jose Cifuentes could now exit the Ibrox club in a matter of hours, according to Ecuagol.
The publication reported on its website late on Thursday (1 February) that the player is very close to signing a contract with Brazilian club Cruzeiro.
Ecuagol noted that the likely move to Brazil is an unexpected turn for Cifuentes given that everything indicated he would be joining Turkish club Rizespor.
Disappointing spell
The midfielder’s time at Ibrox looks set to be coming to an end for the time being, given that he is closing in on a loan switch to Cruzeiro.
And despite making 20 appearances in all competitions for the Gers since his summer switch from Los Angeles FC, his Rangers career can only be described as disappointing.
Like fellow summer arrival Sam Lammers, Cifuentes doesn’t look like he will last at the Gers for very long, in yet another failed Michael Beale signing.
Current manager Philippe Clement has largely overlooked the Ecuador international since taking over in the Ibrox dugout, instead giving regular minutes to the likes of John Lundstram, Tom Lawrence, Ryan Jack, Nico Raskin and Dujon Sterling.
His impending exit highlights the ongoing recruitment issues at Rangers, although fans will now be desperate for those issues to quickly disappear under Clement, who has just finished his first transfer window at Ibrox.
