Rangers manager pinpoints the difference between Gers and Ligue 1 outfit

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has hailed the loyalty of the Ibrox support as he talks about the difference between the Gers and AS Monaco.

The former Ligue 1 manager was speaking to ViaPlay following the 2-0 Scottish Cup victory over Ayr United and hailed the turnout on the day.

Over 40,000 Rangers supporters took in the victory over lower league opposition and Clement has described it as “amazing”.

The Ibrox boss also claims that his biggest regret from the victory over the Honest Men was that the club couldn’t add greater gloss to the victory.

Philippe Clement brands Rangers fans “amazing”

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was asked about the passion from the stands in Scottish football.

The Belgian boss compared his time at Rangers with at AS Monaco, Club Brugge and Genk and it’s clear he thinks highly of the fanaticism of Scottish supporters.

“It’s amazing, I am really enjoying it,” said Clement. “In Monaco, we didn’t have support. We had maximum 2 or 3 thousand supporters.

“Only for the top games was different but it was not really support, it was more people coming to watch the stars.

“In Brugges or in Genk, there was a lot of support. In Brugges, 30,000, always full. But cup games, nobody ever came.

“So we had 2 or 3 thousand people coming to watch the game. Now today more than 40,000 and that enthusiastic.

“That’s the pity of the evening, I wish we could’ve given more goals to the fans to give that extra.

“The team pushed for that and we need to have respect also for the opponent that they gave their lives to stop us to score goals.”

Loyalty of Ibrox never in question

The Rangers manager had plenty to say about the commitment of the Ibrox supporters following the victory over Ayr United.

Also claiming that fans have the right to dream of a famous season in Glasgow, there’s an impressive synergy flowing from the stands, through the dugout and into the dressing room at the moment.

It’s a positive feeling which has been missing from Glasgow’s southside for quite some time and it has the power to carry this team forward into the rest of the season.

But it’s also what makes Rangers a special club and after managing on the continent, it’s something Philippe Clement is beginning to learn.
