Rangers let player talk to another club, loan until 2025 now on cards – report

Rangers have allowed Jose Cifuentes to open discussions with Brazilian club Cruzeiro about a potential loan move after talks with Rizespor stalled, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon page on 29 January that the deal on the table is a year-long loan move, meaning he would return to Ibrox next January rather than in the summer.

It is also said that Cifuentes still wants to make it at Ibrox, and is hopeful that a strong loan move would change the minds of any doubters at Rangers after his first half-season in Glasgow.

Fingers crossed he can push on

If Cifuentes can move away from Ibrox, and the spotlight that comes along with that, and make strides forward in his career and ability away from Rangers, a potential return to Glasgow following that may be the best route for all parties to take.

The news that the player remains keen on becoming a success at Rangers is a positive, unlike other arrivals alongside him under Michael Beale who were keen to get away as soon as possible with no return in sight.

If Cifuentes wants to improve and eventually shine at Ibrox, a move to Brazil may allow him more room to develop and grow his game before returning to Rangers with more experience and a more rounded game which could help him make the step up.

In the first half of this season, he has struggled to adapt to Scottish football after arriving from the MLS, so a loan with a view to an eventual return to Ibrox makes sense both for him and for Ranfers with the transfer outlay spent on him.
