Rangers in rare agreement with Scott Brown after what happened on Saturday

Rangers and Celtic are currently involved in a fierce rivalry both on and off the pitch, and that rivalry spilt into the clash between the Gers and Ayr United.

Bhoys legend and former captain Scott Brown, having played the Ibrox villain as a midfielder for several years, was recently in the opposing dugout.

He brought his Ayr side to Ibrox for a Scottish Cup fifth round encounter on Saturday (10 February), with the boss unsurprisingly jeered by the home fans throughout the match.

Rangers and Brown don’t see eye to eye

Brown never saw eye to eye with those supporters in his playing days, with the powers that be at Ibrox undoubtedly also not major fans of the former Celtic hero.

But the club and Brown have reached a rare agreement after the recent Scottish Cup clash, with the manager venting his frustration at referee Willie Collum for not sending off Gers star Fabio Silva for a poor challenge on Ayr’s George Stanger.

A free kick was awarded by the experienced official, but no second yellow was shown, with Silva having already been booked. Brown was then booked for his protests on the sideline, with the Gers winning the match 2-0.

“It was only a matter of time [before I was booked],” said Brown, as quoted by BBC Sport. “He [referee Willie Collum] should’ve sent off Fabio Silva for his second tackle. It’s a pressure situation, people can’t deal with it.”

Rangers as a whole are, likewise, not fond of Collum, with the Ibrox club having asked the Scottish FA not to involve the official in their matches following an incident in their latest Old Firm match against Celtic [Sky Sports, 9 February].

The official, who was the VAR for that meeting in December, did not advise referee Nick Walsh to review a possible Alistair Johnston handball in the box, leading to massive frustrations for the Gers hierarchy, both on the day and in the aftermath of the 2-1 defeat.
