Cyriel Dessers is one of Rangers’ only striking options at present due to injuries
Philippe Clement has named a surprise option who could potentially rival Cyriel Dessers for a starting berth at Rangers – in Zak Lovelace.
Dessers has been called upon more than ever recently thanks to the injuries in Rangers’ front ranks. Kemar Roofe, Danilo and Abdallah Sima are all out injured for the long-term, and with Sam Lammers failing to impress amid his summer move from Italian outfit Atalanta, he was shipped out to Dutch side Utrecht in order to find his feet in football once again.
With just Dessers, loan signing Fabio Silva and, to an extent, Tom Lawrence able to lead the line, Clement may be looking at other options he has in his ranks to fill in when needed. And the Belgian has singled out praise for youngster Lovelace – who he believes can be a potential option in his ranks.
“Fabio is showing also good things, he’s still adapting to the team and that is normal. Kemar is also still in the building, he’s not top fit now but I expect him to be fit this season. Danilo, we will see if he will be back at the end of the season or not. We’re not going to risk anything with him. So we will see but he will be in the building next season and he showed positive things, so there are also things to take into account.
“We have Zak Lovelace also who was out injured. I’ve not seen him live with me but I saw him before and he is somebody with a bright future so you can have maybe six or seven strikers but you cannot play them all.”
