Oscar Cortes Rangers injury update provided by Philippe Clement

Philippe Clement has provided an injury update on Rangers winger Oscar Cortes.

The on-loan Lens attacker enjoyed a decent game at Rugby Park as the league leaders maintained their two-point gap over Celtic with a comeback victory.

James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence cancelled out Danny Armstrong’s early opener for Killie, as the title chasers produced a big second-half performance to claim all three points in Ayrshire.

Cortes had a mixed game, getting some change out of Killie right-back Joe Wright, with the powerful defender on other occasions getting the better of the Colombian.

The 20-year-old then went down injured, appearing to hold his hamstring, so Clement took no chances and subbed for Scott Wright in his place.

Speaking after the match, the Belgian provided a short update. He said: “No (we don’t know), not yet. We need to make that assessment tomorrow or the day after.

“To make really good choices we have a lot of games, so we’ll see if he was tired or it was more.”

Clement described the victory as ‘massive’ in the title race.

With Rangers having already lost at Killie, as well as Celtic, it’s well-known just how tough an opponent the Premiership’s fourth-placed team is as Derek McInnes and his players chase European football.

“It was a massive one because we knew this was a hard place to go to,” the Belgian told BBC Sport. “All credit to Kilmarnock, they had a series of 14 games only losing once against us at Ibrox. You know the circumstances are difficult to play the football we want to play so it’s massive to win and also to win the game with the great mentality that all the players showed, players who started and who came in.

“What statement does that make? That our team has a lot of resilience, even when things don’t go your way, a penalty against at the beginning and Kilmarnock can play their favourite game to sit and wait for our mistakes. Then reacting like that in the second-half is major.”
