On the verge of joining journalist shared spurs transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is “on the verge of joining” Championship club Millwall for the rest of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs are in the process of shipping out some of the fringe players at the club. Sergio Reguilon has joined Brentford on loan for the rest of the season while attacking midfielder Alfie Devine has joined Plymouth Argyle on loan.

Now it’s the turn of defender, Tanganga, who has returned to Tottenham after a nightmare loan spell in Germany.

“After Reguilón, Spurs prepared to get one more outgoing done as Japhet Tanganga is set to join Milwall. Tanganga, recalled from Augsburg loan and on the verge of joining Milwall until the end of the season,” wrote Romano on X.

Makes sense

Tanganga endured a disastrous spell in Germany where he failed to make a single appearance for Augsburg.

The versatile defender, who can play across the back four, is now expected to join his new club as soon as Thursday. The German club signed him on loan with an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season.

However, an injury and a change in manager meant he was frozen out and left out of the first-team picture.

Tanganga doesn’t seem to have any future at Tottenham either. Ange Postecoglou doesn’t rate him, as he didn’t hesitate to send him out on loan at a time when the club probably can afford to keep him in case there’s an injury crisis.

Spurs signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in the January window, but they could be looking for more additions in the centre-back areas. According to Florian Plettenberg, Spurs are showing keen interest in Ko Itakura.

Tanganga is out of contract at the end of the season at the north London club but Spurs have the option to extend the deal by another year. It’s highly unlikely that they will do so.
