Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds face key January transfer window

Long-term Nottingham Forest target Michy Batshuayi could be on his way to Rangers.

The striker has been on the Reds’ radar for some time. They came close to signing him after sealing promotion to the Premier League, then had their eye on him again last summer.

Reports from Turkey suggested they retained an interest in him ahead of this month’s transfer window. But it seems Rangers are now in pole position to land the Fenerbahce forward.

Batshuayi has had a mixed time in Turkey and hasn’t always been a regular starter. He appears likely to leave Fenerbahce this month and it is said there are a number of clubs interested in securing his signature.

According to the Netsport.uk, Rangers boss Philippe Clement has “made a pitch” to sign the 30-year-old on a short-term deal. It is said “crucial talks” are expected to take place imminently, with hopes a move could be sorted quickly.

Batshuayi joined Fenerbahce when his move from Stamford Bridge to the City Ground collapsed in the summer of 2022, amid suggestions the Blues failed to send the relevant paperwork in time. The Reds cast their eye over him again last summer, but their attacking resources were eventually strengthened by bringing in Divock Origi on loan from AC Milan.

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc is said to have urged Batshuayi to make a decision on his future. He told En Son Haber netsport.uk“I have told him If you want to stay, there is a place for you in Fenerbahce. But if you are restless when you are on the bench, it will affect the team. Let us know your final decision as soon as possible.”
