‘Nonsense’ – Tam McManus reacts as official Rangers and Celtic Old Firm news drops

Tam McManus has reacted to news that both Rangers and Celtic will be given a 5% away allocation for Old Firm games from next season.

Away fans have been limited to between 750 and zero tickets since 2018 due to an ongoing dispute between the clubs, but the SPFL and broadcasters have recently stepped in to help find an agreement.

That was confirmed on Friday morning (29 March), with the agreement coming into place from next season, and former Hibernian striker McManus reacted to the news on his personal Twitter account immediately.

“Hopefully this is the start of this nonsense being resolved and full allocations back at both grounds,” he wrote. “Not the same fixture without full away allocation.

“Rangers are far more competitive now so I don’t see any issue going forward.”

Finally an agreement between Rangers and Celtic

It’s been a long time coming for the two Old Firm clubs to find an agreement, and thankfully it’s finally come.

Regardless of who was at fault or why the initial decision was made back in 2018 for allocations to be cut, the people suffering the most from it were the fans and that is never a good thing for football.

The games have lacked that edge in the stands in recent years and the lack of an away atmosphere has definitely taken away from the spectacle.

Rangers and Celtic are now competing neck and neck once again for the title, and that means the fans should be able to play a part in the run-ins going forward by making their voices heard at opposition grounds.

It’s the right decision for all and hopefully, as McManus says, it’s a start towards going back to getting the full 7,000 allocation that used to exist.
